| Welcome Meditation Group
The Shambhala Meditation Group of Simcoe County is part of Shambhala, a global community of urban meditation and rural retreat centers founded by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, and further developed by his son and lineage holder Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.
Our group meets at the
Thornton Lion’s Hall, 244 Barrie St., Thornton - which is just south of the Intersection of Hwy 27 (Barrie Street) and Hwy 21 (Innesfil Beach Rd.) where we offer a variety of programs, including meditation instruction for beginners, regular sitting meditation on Wednesdays and periodic teachings and training workshops.
Each Wednesday evening we meditate for approximately 45 minutes, then have a discussion for an hour. These discussions have been an enduring, edifying and unifying component of our sangha activities. They can involve a book study, an audiotape or DVD presentation or a formal course with a Shambhala teacher. We sit around a table, drink tea, munch on cookies, and study and learn together.
Meditation: Our Core Practice
The practice of meditation is the heart of all programs offered by the Shambhala Meditation Group of Simcoe County. Meditation is a way of slowing down and getting to know yourself, a way of making friends with your life and developing strength of mind, and a way of synchronizing body and mind in the present moment. It is a way of becoming fully present and appreciating your world.
Finding Your Path
The Shambhala Meditation Group of Simcoe County warmly invites you to practice meditation with us at our regular public sittings on Wednesday evenings.
If you would like to learn how to begin to meditate, qualified instructors are available at our Wednesday sittings.
Please check our calendar and the Regional Calendar for information on additional classes and programs offered regularly. We invite you to explore our diverse programs designed to help people of all spiritual traditions discover their inherent sanity, gentleness and humour.
