Barrie Shambhala Meditation Group
The Shambhala Meditation Group of Simcoe County has changed its name to the Barrie Shambhala Meditation Group
Our group has moved and is now meeting in Barrie. Please contact Susan Bush at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
We meet every Thursday evening, from 7:15 PM - 9:30 PM at 190 Cook Street, Barrie.
The BSMG is part of Shambhala International, a global community of urban meditation and rural retreat centers founded by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, and further developed by his son and lineage holder Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.
Once a week we meditate for approximately 50 minutes (20 minutes sitting, 10 walking & 20 minutes sitting), then have a discussion for an hour. These discussions have been an enduring, edifying and unifying component of our sangha activities. They can involve a book study, an audiotape or DVD presentation or a formal course with a Shambhala teacher. We sit around a table, drink tea, munch on cookies, and study and learn together.
Meditation: Our Core Practice
The practice of meditation is the heart of all programs offered by the Barrie Shambhala Meditation Group. Meditation is a way of slowing down and getting to know yourself, a way of making friends with your life and developing strength of mind, and a way of synchronizing body and mind in the present moment. It is a way of becoming fully present and appreciating your world.
Finding Your Path
The Barrie Shambhala Meditation Group warmly invites you to practice meditation with us at our regular public sittings.
If you would like to learn how to begin to meditate, qualified instructors are available.
Please check our calendar and the Regional Calendar for information on additional classes and programs offered regularly. We invite you to explore our diverse programs designed to help people of all spiritual traditions discover their inherent sanity, gentleness and humour.
